Showground must go on

Every Saturday morning I go to the Farmers’ Market at Lismore Showground to have a coffee with friends (I think it’s the best coffee to be had in Lismore) and buy fruit, vegies and other good quality locally-produced items.

There is always a homely, friendly and unassuming atmosphere where families and friends come and go with ease. You can always park right near the shelter and stalls.

The community feeling at this market has grown in the most natural way without any agenda other than to allow producers and buyers easy access to one another. The people and the venue have made it what it is.

I feel sad that Lismore Council might consider it worthwhile to disrupt and weaken such a successful community enterprise by starting a Farmers’ Market in Magellan St for the sake of possibly bringing a few more people into the CBD on Saturday mornings.
