Shoebridge to release recommendations in cop PTSD fight

NSW Greens senator David Shoebridge is about to release recommendations on how insurance companies should deal with claims of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and how psychological injuries are tracked and prevented.

His recommendations come from a parliamentary hearing into how police officers suffering from PTSD are treated by insurance companies in December last year.

Mr Shoebridge said the treatment of NSW's police officers was an important duty of care issue the government had.

"There is no 24 hour fix. This will be an ongoing process to ensure the positive recommendations are implemented," Mr Shoebridge said.

"The recommendations deal with how claims are handled. They also deal with how psychological injuries are tracked and dealt with by police before it gets to an injury."

He said the best treatment to psychological injury was prevention.

"NSW police officers were at forefront of our minds while we are finalising it."

Mr Shoebridge will release the recommendations next week.
