Shane Warne pays price for outburst during BBL match at MCG
SHANE Warne has expressed regret about his attack on Marlon Samuels but described the punishment as harsh after he was slapped with a one-match ban and $4500 fine for his part in Sunday night's explosive incident at the MCG.
The Melbourne Stars are mulling over whether to appeal the penalties after Warne was found guilty of three charges but exonerated of one other, which was for throwing the ball at or near a player in a dangerous or inappropriate manner.
"I am very conscious of the image of the game and I am disappointed in some of my actions last night. Also I am pretty disappointed with the severity of the penalties too. I think that was pretty harsh," Warne said after a hearing at Cricket Australia's Jolimont headquarters in Melbourne.
"We'll keep you updated through the day and see what happens."
The spin bowling legend was punished for using obscene language, making inappropriate physical contact with a player or official and showing serious dissent at an umpire's decision.
