Crew of stricken yacht rescued

ONE family's ordeal at sea was brought to an end when its stricken yacht floating off the coast of South West Rocks was towed to the safety of the Coffs Harbour marina.

The 40-foot vessel was the subject of a search and rescue mission involving the Coffs Harbour Water Police on Thursday.

Two adults and a 10-year-old child were reportedly stranded in heavy seas, after the yacht lost its sails in strong southerlies.

The skipper also reported the vessel's engine had seized.

NSW Police Marine Area Command said the emergency unfolded in big seas around 2.30am.

Police vessels from Coffs Harbour and Lake Macquarie were tasked to search for the yacht.

It was located and towed up the coast arriving in the harbour around 7pm on Thursday evening.
