Search hits the water for missing 54-year-old

FEARS for Gregory Spindler mount as the search for the missing Mackay man continues.

Yesterday afternoon Mackay police and SES members searched the marina waters in a flood boat for any sign of the 54-year-old, who was last seen about 2am on Tuesday at his Paget workplace.

Mackay Police District Duty Officer Acting Senior Sergeant Mick Greci said they were continuing their appeal for public assistance.

Officers have set up a forward command centre at the marina in relation to the search.

Mr Spindler's vehicle, a black Toyota Hilux utility, was found on Thursday at a carpark at the Mackay Marina.

It is believed to have arrived at the carpark sometime between 12.15am and 2am on Thursday.

Police discovered the vehicle at 2am, but at this stage it is unknown how it came to be at the carpark, Snr Sgt Greci said.

Yesterday police in an all-terrain vehicle and on a motorbike conducted searches up and down the shoreline.

Police have searched up to the headland at Slade Point and on Thursday afternoon the RACQ-CQ Rescue helicopter searched from the air.

Officers have also doorknocked boats berthed at the marina for any information into the disappearance, Snr Sgt Greci said.

"We've got some information... from people actually berthed at the marina," he said.

While police concerns deepened the longer Mr Spindler is missing, Snr Sgt Greci said they remained hopeful.

"Hopefully we'll find him and it will be the resolution we all hope for."
