SCU a comedy club
Last month Lismore comedy lovers were treated to an evening of stand-up comedy when Mandy Nolan was MC at the inaugural Comedy at the Uni Bar at the, um, Uni Bar at SCU in Lismore.
This regular gig on the first Wednesday of the month features emerging comics trying out their five minutes and MCed by a professional comedian.
The thing about open mic that’s so attractive to an audience is its unpredictability. You never quite know what is going to happen next. From the Alstonville boy who has a set like a 1920s vaudevillian comic to the Lismore uni student who got up and told about his rather indecent proposal to his wife, to the Russell Brand look alike from Ballina to the Jewish lesbian South American stoner from Ocean Shores.
Next Wednesday, May 5, Comedy at the Uni Bar is MCed by S Sorrensen. S travels far and wide from his shack in the hills near Nimbin doing stand-up at festivals and clubs all over this wide, fat land. Alternating between mid-life self doubt and supreme confidence, S will no doubt be depressed by the next wave of comics.
This is S’s last gig in Oz before he disappears over the horizon to find Osama Bin Laden and claim the reward.
Open spots are still available, and can be booked by phoning Mandy on 6684 3443. (strictly 5 minutes only.)
The show starts at 7pm and entry is... free!
