Samba Blisstas drum up Beef Week

The Samba Blisstas will be drumming it up for Beef Week 2010 as they once again prepare to lead the Beef Week parade. In a series of workshops leading up to the event, members of the public are invited to come along and learn how to drum with the Blisstas, then join the group in the parade.

Beef Week organiser Therese Schier said she has been successful in securing a grant from Regional Arts NSW to bring the Samba Blisstas drummers to Beef Week again this year.

“It is a big help to have this financial assistance,” he said. “The Samba Blisstas were the talk of the town after their performance in last year’s parade and it’s great to have them back again.

“I saw how much fun the participants had last year, and I’m sure people will be lining up to join in again.”

Samba Blisstas director Paul Barrett said he was keen to have locals march with the group and that if there was enough interest he would consider starting a drumming group in Casino.

Beef Week festivities begin on May 22 and run until June 2. The drumming workshops will be held on Thursday May 27 and Friday May 28 at the Casino RV Village and cost $40 each. There is a maximum of 20 places in the workshops, so if you would like to sign up for them you need to register by Friday May 21 by phoning the Beef Week office on 6662 8181.

Beef Week kicks off with the official opening night dinner at the Casino RSM Club from 6.30pm on Friday, May 22, when the Beef Queen entrants will be introduced. Tickets are $50.

Traditional favourites such as the Beef Week Cup Horse and Greyhound Races, whipcracking and woodchopping will be enjoyed by the crowds plus a number of exciting new events such as a steam train ride and Summerland Drags.
