FEDERAL MP Luke Hartsuyker has called on the Federal Member for Page Janelle Saffin to guarantee funds currently earmarked for the Pacific Highway upgrade are not redirected to pay for the upgrade of Sydney roads.

Following the Prime Minister's announcement for West Connex today there is increasing speculation Julia Gillard will syphon $2 billion from the Pacific Highway and funnel it into western Sydney roads.

"If we form government after the September 14 poll the Federal Coalition will invest $5.64 billion into the Pacific Highway.

"Combined with a $1.5 billion co-contribution from the NSW Government this will provide the $7 billion needed to duplicate the road.

"This Federal Labor Government has been riddled with waste and mismanagement and the real fear now is that they will redirect money from Pacific Highway upgrade in a desperate grab for votes.

"Janelle Saffin must guarantee no funds will be taken from the Pacific Highway to prop up Labor politicians in western Sydney.

"The Pacific Highway is the number one infrastructure project in Australia and it would be a disgrace if Labor withdrew funding because of its economic mismanagement and dire political situation.

"The Coalition believes that both the Pacific Highway and West Connex should be funded and we have released our policies on these two important infrastructure projects.

"We will fund the remaining duplication of the Pacific Highway by restoring the 80:20 funding model with the State, and redirecting funds from the failed Epping to Parramatta rail link proposal."
