Robinson returns after a stint on the sidelines

AFTER a stint on the sidelines, the 2017-18 season has seen Lismore driver Mark Robinson make a welcomed return to the driver's seat in the V8 Dirt Modified class.

Taking the past 12 months off speedway racing to focus on business and family commitments, Robinson has proven that his time away from the track hasn't affected his results.

Ringing in the New Year at Brisbane's Archerfield Speedway for the annual Paul Britten 44 Memorial event, the three-time Australian champion visited the podium in third place in what was his first hit out for the season, after starting from towards the rear of the field.

Robinson late last month contested the New South Wales title, which was also the opening 5 Star Dirt Series round, at Lismore Speedway, and it resulted in a racing incident while running fourth that put him out of contention. Due to extensive car damage sustained in that incident, he was unable to compete in the following night's second and final Mr Modified Series round.

Last Saturday night, Robinson and the team ventured down to Moama's Heartland Raceway with wins in both of his heat races and then completed a clean sweep by scoring a flag-to-flag feature-race win.

"We've had a strong start to the season and are pleased with our consistency and results, after having spent the past 12 months on the sidelines,” Robinson said.

"We're definitely still getting used to the brand-new car, but it's absolutely an overall improvement and we're confident that we'll be able to challenge at the front of the field on a regular basis for the remainder of the season.”

For his next appearance, Robinson will be competing in the Queensland Title at Maryborough Speedway on Saturday night.

Closing out his season he will participate in the remaining meetings at Lismore on April 14 and 28.

Robinson would like to thank his 2017-18 season sponsors: Castrol, Southside Truck Centre, Global Lubricant Distribution, GSR Suspension Development, Trevan Ford, Northern Truck Coolers, and A1 Signs.

Special thanks must go to Bud, Larry, Micka, mum and dad (Faye and Steve), Chloe and the kids, along with the rest of the team and supporters.
