Rinehart again tops list of Australian billionaires

MINING magnate Gina Rinehart is the highest ranking Australian in Forbes magazine's annual list of the world's richest people.

Mrs Rinehart came in ranked equal 36th in the world with a net worth of $US17 billion.

Australian-born media magnate Rupert Murdoch (now a US citizen) was 91st with $US11.2 billion, commodity trader Ivan Glasenberg came in equal 175th with $US6.7 billion from Glencore, while gaming and media tycoon James Packer ranked equal 198th with $US6 billion.

Forbes says the world's richest person is Mexican telecommunications tycoon Carlos Slim, who has $US73 billion, up $US4 billion from a year ago.

Mr Slim, who controls Latin American telecommunications power America Movil and retail/industrial group Grupo Carso, came in first among the mega-rich for the fourth straight year.
