Rainforest ride helps helicopter

Taking the back roads to O’Reilly’s Rainforest Resort is one of the most spectacular journeys you can make in the Northern Rivers region as you follow a windy mountain road into the pristine wilderness of the Lamington National Park.

In places you literally ride through the boughs of hundred-year-old trees as you twist and turn your way to the top of the mountain where there’s breathtaking views of the rainforest valleys and mountains beyond.

Lismore Motorcycles is offering riders the chance to experience this beautiful journey as part of a charity ride on Sunday, March 28, in support of the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.

“We’re going out the back of Nimbin and up through Uki, sticking to the back roads and away from the highway,” Maree Daley from Lismore Motorcycles said. “It’s a really comfortable, scenic and relaxing ride.

“It’s a great experience participating on a ride with like-minded people and being able to swap stories along the way.

“A lot of our customers race bikes, and regardless of whether they ride dirt bikes or road bikes, they understand the value of the helicopter service in our area. It’s underfunded and because we really value what they do we try and hold three or four charity rides a year to support them.”

The charity ride begins in Lismore with participants riding to O’Reilly’s Rainforest Resort where an area is reserved for riders to purchase their delicious lunch before the trip home.

It costs $25 for riders and $10 for pillions, which includes a donation to the helicopter service and a commemorative T-shirt. The ride is open to all road bike enthusiasts.
