Rail company signs new contract to haul coal to Gladstone
AURIZON has signed a new long-term coal haulage contract involving the Port of Gladstone.
The company (formerly QR National) and Ensham have signed a new agreement to rail 5.5 million tonnes of coal per annum from Ensham's mine in Central Queensland.
The new agreement will run until 2024 and will extend the existing contract, which expires in 2015. The new agreement is effective from next month.
Aurizon executive vice president Paul Scurrah said Ensham and Aurizon had decided to re-commit to their business relationship before the previous contract finished, because the new agreement would generate increased value for both parties.
"Under this new arrangement, Aurizon can better meet Ensham's demand for services to align with its mine production in both the short and long term," he said.
