Girlfriends threw in spare change for winning $70m ticket

UPDATE: A GROUP of girlfriends who threw in their spare change from lunch to buy lottery tickets have won OzLotto's $70 million jackpot.

The unidentified group - reported to be a group of 10 - came forward on Wednesday afternoon to claim their multi-million dollar prize.

The winners will now go down in the history books as scoring the largest Australian lotto prize on a single ticket, beating the $58.7 million won by a syndicate from Melbourne in 2008.

"I checked the ticket this morning and when I realised we'd won I just sat there shaking like a leaf!" the syndicate leader revealed.

"We regularly meet up for lunch and after we pay the bill, there's always a couple of dollars left over.

"I told everyone on the last occasion to throw in some loose change and I'll buy a lotto ticket in a big draw before Christmas.

"Yesterday I saw Oz Lotto had jackpotted to $70 million so purchased a QuickPick entry."

The winner said she's not too sure what everyone will do with their equal share of the $70 million division one prize.

"My husband told me he wanted to buy a race horse but I said it's not your prize!" she jokingly added.

The record breaking $70 million winning 12-game QuickPick was purchased at Golden News and Casket Kiosk, Runaway Bay Shopping Village, 10 - 12 Lae Drive in Runaway Bay.

Golden News and Casket Kiosk owner Pam Goldsmith was ecstatic to discover her store had sold the largest single lotto winning ticket in Australia's history.

"I kept saying to customers this week, 'Wouldn't it be nice if we sold the winning ticket,' never thinking we would," she said.
