BUNDABERG'S well-known string quartet Quatro was once again in the spotlight with a performance in the Young Talent Time talent quest on Sunday night.

Teenagers Amity Brand, Claudia Vogel, Vanessa Smith and Radha Skula wowed the nation with their medley of With or Without You and Explosion as the first contestants in the talent quest of the rebooted TV show.

Judge Tina Arena described the performance as "surprising".

"I'm really tickled pink - what a great opening," she said.

But the praise was not enough to pull the girls through to the semi-finals of the competition after being beaten by eight-year-old singing sensation Alayna.

Vanessa's mother Neica Smith said the girls caught the show during a quick stop at friends near Biggenden on their way back from performing at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

"We were so excited," she said.

"The girls were just so happy to be a part of the experience."

Mrs Smith said the girls were also excited to be the first performers on the new version of Young Talent Time.

"That's something that can never be taken away from them," she said.

Mrs Smith said the hair and make-up during the taping of the show was a highlight for the four St Luke's Anglican School students.

Quatro has a second chance at the semi-finals if they received enough votes to be named the people's choice for the week.

The people's choice will be announced on Young Talent Time this Sunday.
