Prop honoured as Scots’ best on league field

GOLD COAST Titans prop Luke Douglas has been awarded the 2013 Dave Valentine Award for Scotland Rugby League's player of the year.

The 27-year-old (pictured), who equalled former Wests, North Sydney and Parramatta halfback Jason Taylor's record of 194 consecutive NRL games in the last round of the 2013 season, beat former Titans fullback Matt Russell and English Super League's Man of Steel winner Danny Brough for the award.

Douglas represented Scotland at the Rugby League World Cup as a tribute to his late mother, Trish, who was born in Glasgow and died in May last year.

Meanwhile, Titans recruit Maurice Blair was in the headlines for the wrong reasons after being arrested during New Year's Eve celebrations in Maryborough.

Blair, 29, was charged with obstructing police and drinking in a public place and will face Maryborough Magistrates' Court on January 7.
