Rocky mother who punched daughter in face gets probation

A MOTHER-of-eight got a slap on the wrist and a 12 month probation order this week for punching her six-year-old daughter in the face.

On Wednesday, the 27-year-old woman pleaded guilty in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.

The court heard the child arrived at school with a black eye on December 3, after being absent the day before.

The school contacted police who responded to the complaint.

The girl said her mother, who has not been named to protect her daughter's identity, had punched her in the eye at their house.

When questioned she denied hitting her daughter. She claimed one of her other children did it while they were playing.

Eventually, she admitted to the offence.

The court heard it was out of character for the woman, who has been suffering anxiety and depression as her partner is in jail.

She said it would never happen again.

She had no history of like offences.
