JUST days after parting ways with the Australian PGA Championship, Palmer Coolum Resort has announced it will host part of Australia's largest pro-am golf event.
At least six events in the The Holden Scramble will be played at the championship course, between March and September this year.
Palmer Coolum Resort director of golf Paul Crangle said he was delighted to be hosting the qualifiers at the resort for the first time.
"The Holden Scramble is a massive national event," Mr Crangle said.
"There are some great prizes on offer and of course the chance of playing with a top pro in the grand final."
The Holden Scramble has become Australia's most successful pro-amateur team event since it began in 1992, attracting up to 45,000 participants each year.
Stage one local qualifiers will be held at the resort and any amateur player with a Golf Australia handicap can take part.
More than 450 local events take place across Australia, with winning teams advancing to one of a series of regional finals in October. In the regional finals, the four-person squads will be joined by a local club professional to assist their cause.
Regional final winners head into the championship final, in November, where they are allocated a top professional to help lead their side. PGA professionals who have played in recent finals include Stuart Appleby, Peter O'Malley and Wayne Grady.
Teams must have four players to compete in the tournament, but Mr Crangle said anyone struggling to make up a quartet could phone the resort's pro shop for assistance.
Entry to one of the local qualifiers at the resort costs $125 per person, which includes the Holden Scramble national entry fee of $35 per person. All participants receive a gift pack which includes six Callaway golf balls and a $550 cashback offer from major sponsor Holden.
Palmer Coolum Resort's Stage One Local Qualifiers will be held on the following dates:
- Friday March 29
- Friday April 26
- Friday June 28
- Friday July 26
- Friday August 17
- Friday September 13
To register, or seek other golfers to make up a group of four, players should contact the Palmer Coolum Resort pro shop on 07 5449 3366.
