Premier uses "Queenslander" call ahead of $500m COAG fight

ANNASTACIA Palaszczuk has invoked the "Queenslander" mythos ahead of her first COAG meeting, where the state faces the prospect of losing half a billion dollars in GST funding.

It's enough to bring the Opposition and Government together, with Lawrence Springborg saying the LNP stands "side by side" with Labor on the issue.

Ms Palaszczuk prepared for her round table discussion with the nation's premiers, first ministers and the Prime Minister by heading to a kindergarten and speaking with children.

The photo opportunity, designed to show the impact the loss of $85 million would have on the state's early education programs, if the federal government doesn't commit to extending is national partnership, also gave Ms Palaszczuk a platform to call on federal LNP MPs and Senators to "back" her in the funding fight.

Queensland LNP Senator Matt Canavan argued it was time to stop the "parochial bickering" and backed WA in its battle to receive a bigger slice of the GST pie.
