Premier: MH17 tragedy reminds us 'peace can be fragile'

QUEENSLAND Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the MH17 tragedy would live on in the state's memories forever.

"It reminds us that peace can be fragile and that life can be taken away from any of us in an instant," she said.

"My thoughts remain with the families and friends of the victims, especially those of the seven Queenslanders onboard."

Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg said the first anniversary of the tragedy would be a tough time for the families and friends of those aboard the plane.

"My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of the Australians who lost their lives in this terrible tragedy," he said.

A national memorial service will be held today in Canberra to mark the first anniversary of the MH17 tragedy.

A permanent plaque will be unveiled in the House of Representatives' gardens at Parliament House with the names of those whose lives were tragically taken.

The plaque will be placed alongside the memorial in place for the 88 Australians killed in the 2002 Bali bombings.
