Postecoglou hopes team has edge to secure A-League victory

IF anyone knows what is required to win finals in the A-League it's Ange Postecoglou.

The Melbourne Victory coach guided the Brisbane Roar to the championship in the past two seasons, and said he thought the style of play his new team had shown this season would be good enough to get past Perth in Friday night's elimination final at Etihad Stadium.

"There's a lot more edge to (finals football). There's a lot more pressure to every situation. The tempo is usually higher and the intensity is definitely higher ... particularly if you're playing knock-out football," he said.

"But we've been preparing for that for a while - I think the style of football we're trying to play will hopefully be successful in a finals-type scenario."

Postecoglou used Sunday's 3-2 win against the Phoenix in Wellington to fine tune the preparations of some of his key players.

He played the returning Marco Flores for an hour and rested Billy Celeski until the 72 minute mark, but played Socceroos squad members Mark Milligan and Archie Thompson for the full 90 minutes after they had seen minimal game time against Oman in Sydney.
