Pool shut down by party poopers who threw toilet paper in

ROCKHAMPTON'S new southside swimming pool was closed on Sunday after vandals threw copious amounts of toilet paper into the water overnight Saturday.

Rockhampton Regional Council CEO Evan Pardon said about 12 commercial-sized toilet rolls were thrown into the pool.

"As the toilet rolls disintegrate in water, they needed to be carefully scooped out which was a time-consuming process," Mr Pardon said.

The break-in was the third since the opening of the multi-million-dollar development.

This was the first time the pool was closed, though swimmers could still take to the water in the nearby old pool.

Mr Pardon said the council had regular private security patrols on weekends and was working closely with police to increase their patrols. More than 22,300 visitations were recorded at the swimming complex between the start of September and the end of January.

A report on the opening for winter (May-August) has been prepared for the Council's Parks and Recreation Committee which is scheduled to meet in early April.
