Pollies' New Year's resolution should be honesty: Palmer

MINING magnate Clive Palmer has called on Australia's politicians and business leaders to make New Year's resolutions to act honestly.

Mr Palmer made the comments in a statement he sent out just hours after addresses by the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader.

The New Year's resolutions should centre on acting honestly, admitting mistakes and working harder, Mr Palmer wrote.

"The first New Year's resolution politicians and business leaders should be making is to always tell the truth," he said.

"You should never be afraid to admit a mistake," he said.

The verbose mining magnate even quoted John F Kennedy, in saying "an error doesn't become a mistake until you refuse to correct it".

He said the nation should work together to create a place where people were not judged according to their "economic standing".

"We need love and reconciliation and to bring people together," he said.
