Police task force's prostitution sting in Coast apartment

A SEX worker nabbed operating illegally on the Sunshine Coast has been fined for the second time.

When Guimei Wang arrived at an Alexandra Heads apartment on July 16, she was expecting to meet a client but was instead confronted by police officers.

The task force was targeting illegal prostitution and had responded to an escort services advertisement in a newspaper.

Officers searched the Chinese-born woman, who had lived in Australia since 2007, and found $750 cash, mobile phones and notes detailing jobs.

The 56-year-old Regents Park woman pleaded guilty in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court yesterday to engaging in prostitution through an unlawful prostitution business and possessing tainted property.

The court heard Wang usually runs her business in compliance with the law, but on that day work was limited and she took on a job for a third party, who placed the advertisement.

She had previously been fined for a prostitution offence.

Wang was fined $400, with no conviction recorded.
