CONVICTED armed robber Christopher Gibbs remains on the run after escaping a minimum security jail in NSW on Tuesday morning.

The 30-year-old is serving a seven-year sentence for a series of bank and credit union hold-ups on the Mid North Coast.

PolAir and the dog squad have continued to search for the dangerous criminal who is believed to have links in Sydney's west.

Despite Gibbs' criminal record, he was ordered to serve his time at the minimum security Goulburn Correction Centre.

He was reported missing at 9.30am Tuesday.

Police have released an image of Gibbs, who is described as being about 195cm tall and thin with sandy blonde hair and acne scars on his face.

He was last seen wearing prison greens.

Anyone who sees Gibbs is warned not to approach him but to call 000 immediately.
