Police bust North Coast drug crops

Police have seized almost 2500 cannabis plants in an operation that took in areas around Burringbar, Murwillumbah, Mullumbimby and Uki. On one property, police seized 88 cannabis plants from an indoor hydroponic set-up.

Strike Force Farrelly involved detectives from the State Crime Command Drug Squad, the Tweed/Byron Local Area Command, the NSW Police Air Wing, the Dog Squad and the Radio Electronics Unit.

Police estimate the street value of the haul to be $4.8 million.

Four men have been issued with court attendance notices and the Tweed/Byron police are investigating four other seizures from the operation.

“We have been conducting cannabis eradication programs since the mid-1980s and we have got it down to a fine art,” Detective Superintendent Nick Bingham said. “Whether it’s a semi-rural property or a steep mountainside in a remote part of the state, there’s a high chance we’ll locate these illegal crops and destroy them.”
