Police arrest woman for hitching ride on high-speed train

A WOMAN, who allegedly hitched a ride on top of a high-speed freight train to get from NSW to South Australia in the middle of the night, has been arrested.

The 27-year-old allegedly climbed into the roof of a train when it stopped at Broken Hill about 3am Tuesday.

She allegedly remained on the train, which reached speeds of 115kmh for more than four hours before jumping off a container at Ivanhoe Station.

The train driver phoned police and the woman was later found walking along the Cobb Hwy.

Travel arrangements were made for the woman, who was trying to get to Adelaide.

She will have to return to Broken Hill when she has her day in court in March.
