POLICE are investigating a shocking case of animal cruelty in which a sheep was dragged behind a car near Stanthorpe.
A member of the public stopped when they saw the sheep being dragged behind a car on Jimmy Mann Rd at Broadwater.
The offender had tied a rope around the sheep's neck and tied it to the car's tow ball.
The witness confronted the offender when they pulled over.
The offender untied the badly injured sheep and threw its body into the boot of the car.
Stanthorpe Police are investigating the incident which occurred on Thursday.
"A member of the public driving past filmed (the incident)," a police spokesman said.
"Police have the footage and are following up on it."
It is believed the sheep died.
No charges have been laid at this stage.
