Teen placed on bond for smoking drug that 'helps mellow him'

A TEENAGER admitted to smoking cannabis because it "helps mellow him down".

Joshua Douglas Peter Neven pleaded guilty in the Mackay Magistrates Court to possessing cannabis, a water pipe, scales and a grinder.

The 17-year-old had no criminal history.

"This is the result of a search warrant your honour," prosecutor Michael Ball said.

The weight of the cannabis was 26.48grams.

Neven told officers he'd bought it for $200.

Duty solicitor David Strutynski, of Strutynski Law, said his client accepted he would need to find another way to "mellow out".

"Self medication is not good," Magistrate Damien Dwyer said.

It was accepted Neven was young and had made a mistake. He was placed on a $400 four-month good behaviour bond.
