PETA is an absolute joke: Bob Katter

QUEENSLAND Federal MP Bob Katter has hit out at animal rights activists who have called for criminal charges to be laid against cattle producers who were still suffering from the huge bushfires in October.

In late December, PETA activists wrote to Biosecurity Queensland calling for cattle producers to be criminally charged with failing to protect their animals after the Gulf Savannah fires.

Mr Katter, on Tuesday, said to brand the primary producers as criminals was an outrage.

"PETA needs a harsh reality check. This mob is an absolute joke," he said.

"These extremists don't understand a thing about the livelihood of our farmers.

"They have no idea that our farmers work around the clock, 24 hours each and every day to ensure that they have done everything they can to protect both their stock and their future."

Mr Katter said farmers did not need to be told how to run their farms by "extremists who lived in far away cities, drinking lattes in the morning and champagne at night".
