People's portrait to come...

The Northern Rivers Portrait Prize opened last Friday night with people packing into Lismore Regional Gallery to view the 54 finalist portraits. If ever there was validation of the establishment of this portrait prize it was the sheer popularity of the event, with people lining up down Molesworth Street to get into the gallery.

(It also showed that a larger gallery in Lismore might be a good idea…)

Dean Greguric, You Look So Beautiful When You’re Sleeping by Cassandra Rijs won the major prize of $7,500. But there’s still the People’s Choice Award of $500 to be announced.

The Portrait Prize is on show at the gallery until May 29 and viewers have until then to vote for their favourite portrait.
