Patient attacks doctor, nurses

A DOCTOR and two nurses have allegedly been  assaulted by a patient at Maclean Base Hospital.

Police confirmed yesterday that a 40-year-old woman from South Australia was due to front Grafton Local Court today accused of three counts of common assault relating to an October 28 incident.

Lynne Weir, executive director of Richmond Clarence Health Service Group, said Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSW LHD) made every effort to keep its staff safe. "Emergency Departments are busy units that sometimes have to deal with difficult patients," she said.

"NNSW LHD is conscious of the distress such incidents can cause to staff who were offered counselling and debriefing.

"Maclean Hospital ED has introduced a number of security measures to ensure staff safety.

"These include a secure unit with duress alarms."
