Parents pity thieves who stole their car on Christmas Day
AN ILUKA family whose car was discovered burnt out on Christmas Day has only pity for the thieves and wants to put the sad episode behind them.
"It was only a car," said mum, Sarah Moerman.
"There was only three Christmas presents in it and Zac's bike.
"We only found out it had been stolen on Christmas morning. We didn't let it stop us from having a good Christmas."
She said the news of the drowning death of a boy on Chatsworth Island put their loss in perspective for her family.
"When you see something as sad as that, what happened to us is hardly anything," she said.
"If this is the worst thing that happens to us, we'll be going pretty well."
Mrs Moerman said the three presents in the car were all for her eight-year-old son Zac, but it was his bike he missed the most.
"Zac said he would like to meet the people responsible and ask them to buy him a new bike," she said.
Mrs Moerman said the support from the Iluka community for her family, husband Julian and son Zac, had been fantastic.
"We live in a great community who have been so supportive of us," she said.
She had little to say about the people who destroyed her car.
"They have to live with the guilt of what they've done," she said.
