Paper deliverer assaulted during early morning rounds

AN Advocate deliver is in hospital after being savagely bashed while doing his rounds in Park Beach.

The man, who is in his 50s, was set upon by four assailants on the corner of Vincent St and Ocean Parade about 3am.

He has told police the four men emerged from bushes south of the Park Beach Bowling Club, ran across Ocean Parade and attacked him.

He was knocked to the gorund and then repeatedly kicked and beaten while he was down.

Police were quick to respond as they were in the area investigating damage to motor vehicles that occurred earlier in the morning.

The deliver was taken by ambulance to the Coffs Harbour Health Campus to be treated for a gash to his head and have a CAT scan.

His elderly mother, who shares the delivery of 1350 papers in the Park Beach area by foot, was understandably very distressed by the incident.
