Overseas troops receive gifts from loved ones on Christmas

CHRISTMAS messages from Aussie troops serving overseas to their loved ones back home have been uploaded to the Australian Defence Force website.

Thousands of gift wrapped boxes filled with chocolates and quirky favourites like vegemite and letters from fellow Australians were shipped to Afghanistan in time for Christmas.

Private Michael Lambert said it was "humbling" to receive the gifts at a time when it was "quite challenging" to be so far away from family and friends.
