Turtles turn on top show for TV

BUNDABERG'S favourite reptiles put on a perfect performance for the Today Show's live weather broadcast from Mon Repos turtle rookery yesterday morning.

Bundaberg North Burnett Tourism spokesman Greg Barnes said the national exposure had helped put Bundaberg back on the map as a tourist haven for animal lovers seeking a close encounter.

He said the weather crew were chuffed as hatchlings emerged to make their first ocean journey just before some new mums crawled up the sand to nest.

"The fluke of this happening in daylight all in the space of two hours is just unheard of," the beaming councillor said.

"The crew cheered as the first little hatchling hit the water."
