Titans seeking full details of new recruit's arrest

UPDATE: The Gold Coast Titans club is seeking full details of new recruit Maurice Blair's arrest on New Year's Eve before 'jumping to any conclusions'.

In a statement issued just before 1pm, Titans chief executive officer Graham Annesley said they had only just been made aware of the incident and had immediately notified the NRL's Integrity Unit.

"We are endeavouring to find out all the details and will be speaking to both the player and his manager as soon as possible," he said.

"Until we have a full understanding of the facts, we won't be prejudging the matter or jumping to any conclusions.''

EARLIER: A Gold Coast Titan NRL 2014 recruit was charged with obstructing police and drinking in a public place after an incident in Maryborough just before midnight on New Year's Eve.

Former Melbourne Storm centre Maurice Blair, 29, will face Maryborough Magistrates Court on January 7.

Three male associates were also arrested for causing a disturbance outside the Maryborough watchhouse after Blair's arrest.

Sergeant Trevor Ferling from Maryborough Police Communications said overall the behaviour of people celebrating the New Year on the Fraser Coast was positive.

"Arrests were made last night but most people were generally well-behaved," Sgt Ferling said.

A 33-year-old Maryborough man was charged with serious assault of a police officer after it was alleged he spat at an officer about 1.30am.

The man will face Maryborough Magistrates Court later this month.

"It was a busy night for all of our units with Inspector Paul Biggen and Superintendent Mark Stiles overseeing," Sgt Ferling said.

Hervey Bay police reported good conduct in the Bay.
