Belinda calls for help after 50 job applications a week

ONE chance is all Fraser Coast's Belinda Mason is asking of local businesses after years of being unable to find a paid job.

The 42-year-old single mother has been applying for more than 50 jobs a week since the beginning of the year to boost her chances.

Miss Mason said she was ready to start yesterday.

"I am getting out there and volunteering four days a week, but keep getting told I don't have enough experience," she said.

The Fraser Coast Chronicle is now calling for help from the community and businesses to get Miss Mason a job.

The mum-of-three is desperately wanting to re-enter the workforce and is willing to give anything a go.

"I've applied for work in community support and administration, as a kitchen hand, a personal carer and a hospital orderly and for bar work," she said.

"Mostly I hear nothing back."

Miss Mason currently receives the Newstart Allowance, but said most people on the dole would work in a heartbeat rather than be propped up by welfare.

"We don't want millions - we just want enough to pay for food, petrol and maybe go on a camping trip once a year," she said.

Equipped with knowledge in aged care, Auslan and business administration, Miss Mason also has study certificates in these areas.

She hopes to make herself stand out from the crowd by enrolling in further TAFE studies, but said cost was a huge factor.
