Push to start over-60s Northern Rivers cricket competition

NOW is the time for locals to put their hand up to play in a proposed over-60s cricket competition.

Organiser Bruce Ravenscroft is holding an information session at the Lismore City Bowling this Saturday.

"This is the last chance we have to organise it," Ravenscroft said.

"I know people are keen to play but they need to turn up so we can get definite numbers."

Ravenscroft is keen to have a regular competition with teams from Ballina, Casino, Grafton, Kyogle, Lismore and the Tweed.

He believes the competition will be mainly used for social play on a Monday or Tuesday.

It can also be used as an initial pathway for players to go on to represent at state level.

Ravenscroft played for the New South Wales Over-60s team that defeated Queensland in Armidale in May.

"We welcome anyone to turn up if they want to know more about it," he said.

The meeting will be held at 11am.
