Not happy, Telstra. If only there was an alternative...

WHEN a large employer like Telstra pulls the plug on over 100 local jobs - as with the recent closure of its Goonellabah call centre - it hurts the community and there are consequences for the company.

An online survey in Goonellabah by the Northern Rivers Social Development Council (NRSDC) shows a majority of respondents would investigate using other service providers because of Telstra's closure of the call centre.

"We are heartened by the strength of the community's support in shifting to alternative providers," NRSDC's Brett Paradise said.

"But most people believed that currently, coverage provided by others was inferior to that provided by Telstra."
