Northern Rivers West takes Johnston-Dignan bowls Shield

NORTHERN Rivers West took the three-district Johnston-Dignan Shield played at Ballina RSL on Sunday with its fellow Northern Rivers District Bowling Association side from the East in second place.

West, undefeated in its three rounds, gave East its only defeat, winning 63-50.

East in its two wins against other districts had the biggest margins - beating Tweed-Byron 75-35 and Clarence River 63-43.

Clarence River downed Tweed-Byron 60-50 to fill third place.

Performances in the Shield will be taken into account when the Zone One squad of 16 is selected to contest the state interzone titles at The Entrance and Ettalong, September 12 to 14.
