Nimbin: fashion central

Nimbin is not all about tie-dye and cheesecloth. Not these days, at least.

Fashion has always been a big part of Nimbin culture and the popular yearly fashion shows showcase the unfettered thinking and creativity of local designers.

The Nimbin Fashion Collective will present the seventh annual Nimbin Fashion Show on Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14, at the School of Arts (town hall).

Up to 20 local designers dedicated to creating fresh, innovative styles present choreographed displays that use a variety of materials, including natural hemp and cotton, silk, felt, hi-tech synthetics, and recycled garments. (One of the designers, Honey, even creates clothes from old Glo-Mesh bags).

This year, the show coincides with National Recycling Week. The environment has always been a priority in Nimbin and designers explore the many ways of using recycled clothing and fabrics alongside their usual lines.
