SOCCEROOS coach Ange Postecoglou has told players who have missed out on his first squad not to give up hope.
Postecoglou, who replaced Holger Osieck at the helm last month, announced yesterday the 22-man line-up to face Costa Rica in Sydney on November 19.
Luke Wilkshire, Archie Thompson, Brett Holman and Alex Brosque were left out, but veterans Lucas Neill and Tim Cahill got the nod from Postecoglou, who did not name a captain.
Ryan McGowan has been recalled and former Central Coast captain Alex Wilkinson, who plays for Jeonbuk Hyundai in the Korean K-League, is in the squad for the first time.
Postecoglou insisted it was not the end for the players who missed out.
"Luke was carrying a bit of an injury - he has played the last three or four games. Fullback is an area I really want to try people and this was a great opportunity," Postecoglou said. "Luke is definitely still on the radar.
"Certainly the players that have missed out haven't had a line put through them.
"The opportunities will be there for those whose form warrants it."
Postecoglou also said he would not be frightened to pick A-League players in future squads.
"There were a lot of A-League players who came heavily into my mind ... come March, we'll be 20 games into the season," he said.
"My message to them would be maintain your form and you could get a look-in."
