New site launched offers free online courses

PEOPLE in regional and remote areas now have a chance to brush up on skills or study altogether new courses for free, online.

A new online education portal, called Open2Study, will be launched on Thursday, by Open Universities Australia.

The website will initially supply 10 free educational courses, guaranteed by universities and TAFEs including RMIT University and TAFE New South Wales.

It will begin offering spots to study courses including financial planning, writing for the web and strategic management from April this year.

Run by OUA, the new website will be a completely free arm of the online education provider, which already provides complete degrees for study online.

OUA chief executive Paul Wappett said he expected up to 50 new online courses would be available on the website by the end of the year.
