New aged care facility for Lismore

The former Lismore Private Hospital site in McKenzie Street has been purchased by RSL LifeCare, which plans to turn it into a "state-of-the-art residential care home".

RSL LifeCare northern region general manager Matthew Ashby said the facility would have 64 single bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a chapel and extensive lounge and dining facilities.

The facility will be named 'Fromelles' (after the site of the first major battle by Australian troops on the Western front) and Mr Ashby said he hoped it would be open by the middle of the year.
