Teenager has ‘near-death’ crash in nanna’s car

A YEPPOON teenager has been given an ultimatum by a Facebook friend: "go and get a job and get your grandparents a new car".

On early Wednesday afternoon, the 17-year-old, who The Morning Bulletin has chosen not to identify, wrote-off his grandparents' car when he allegedly borrowed it without permission and flipped it onto its roof near the Causeway Lake Bridge on the Capricorn Coast.

A Morning Bulletin source yesterday said the unlicensed teenage driver was allegedly driving the car near Kinka Beach when he lost control of the car. The vehicle hit an embankment and then rolled onto its roof.

Two of his friends were believed to be in the vehicle.

The source said before police could be called to the scene, the boys allegedly crawled out of the vehicle and called a Yeppoon car wrecking company to have the vehicle picked up.

Luckily, the three teens escaped the crash basically unscathed, which the source said was a miracle.

On Wednesday night, the teenager took to Facebook to broadcast his escapade. He posted: "yet another near death experience, glad to still be alive".

The Bulletin source said he understood the teenager's grandparents weren't home when the 17-year-old took the vehicle. He also claimed the car was new and not insured.

A Yeppoon Auto Wreckers spokesman, who retrieved the car, said when he arrived at the scene, the number plates had been removed. He found the car on its roof and over an embankment.

Waiting at the crash scene was a woman and two teenagers.

Yeppoon Police Senior Sergeant Bob Barclay said neither was the crash reported or a complaint made to police. He said police were looking into the matter.
