IT DOESN'T take long for the Logies red carpet to get manic, but man it's fun.

Hundreds of celebs and actors strutted their stuff down the red carpet for tonight's 55th annual TV awards, and two keys trends stood out for the women: metallic and lace.

Nudes are out, with bright, bold, classic colours like red, blue and emerald green lighting up this year's red carpet.

White was also a popular colour, with co-host Shelley Craft setting the stage early in her shimmering white and silver Nicola Fenetti gown and silver-tipped white heels.

Some stars, like Jesinta Campbell, Rebecca Gibney, newsreader Sandra Sully and Sonia Kruger, went for sparkling sequins from head to toe.

There was also some serious bling on show with big, chunky earrings, ear cuffs and rings completing the outfits.

Lauren Phillips' matte sequin gown, with its muted hues, was a refreshing break from the brighter and shinier frocks.

For men, it was all about bowties and velvet jackets. MasterChef's George Calombaris sported a black leather bowtie while choreographer Jason Coleman wore a gold velvet jacket.

Australia's Next Top Model host Jennifer Hawkins made a late appearance in a black sequin halter gown with up-swept hair.
