Musical Maori magic

If you want to see something really and truly amazing then check out the queen of loops, the princess of funk – the ridiculously talented Mihirangi.

With a talent that goes beyond mere creativity, a voice that sets your kundalini a’rising, and her trusty RC50 loop pedal, this Maori woman creates a big band sound with earth-shaking bass lines, ska chops, jazz riffs, beat-boxing and soaring vocal solos – just with her mouth.

DJ Katch from the Resin Dogs will be adding cuts, scratches and samples, plus drummer Elvis Aljus will emphasise the big beats when Mihirangi performs at the Nimbin Hotel this Thursday, December 24, from 7.30pm; and the Beach Hotel in Byron next Wednesday, December 30, from 8.30pm.

Incredibly both these gigs are free.

Go see her.
