Murder-suicide man dies in hospital

A PAINTER who was left in a critical condition after an apparent murder-suicide attempt died in the Royal Brisbane Hospital about 6.30am yesterday.

Stephen Casey was found with severe head wounds after an incident at his home in Kelly St, Burnett Heads, just after midnight on Sunday, January 22.

Mr Casey's partner, Rebecca Doran, a Jenny Craig consultant, was found dead at the scene.

Police have declared the deaths suspicious.

Bundaberg Criminal Investigations Branch Detective Senior Sergeant Joe Hildred said the matter would be referred to the coroner.

"The coronial report is being prepared by the Criminal Investigations Branch," he said.

Mr Casey was rushed to Bundaberg Hospital with life-threatening injuries after emergency crews arrived at the scene.

That afternoon he was transferred to the Royal Brisbane Hospital for treatment.

The painter had remained there in a critical condition until his death yesterday.

Ms Doran had a 16-year-old boy who lived with the couple in Burnett Heads.

He was not home on the night of the shooting.
