Mum takes on challenge after daughter's diagnosis

WATCHING your two-year-old daughter suffer with a serious liver condition while she awaits an organ donation is not something Maroochydore's Anthea Anderson would recommend.

But sharing her daughter's ordeal without the help of public health services would be impossible, she says.

That's why Mrs Anderson and her friend and Buderim resident Nicole Pedersen-McKinnon are in the final days of training for Wishlist's Mapleton Challenge this weekend.

Wishlist is a hospital charity that raises more than $1 million every year to support the Coast's public health system.

"I'm so amazed at the things they've done and the families they've helped on the Sunshine Coast," Mrs Anderson said.

Every time Mrs Anderson's daughter Elise needs blood tests or has an emergency situation, the family relies on the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service, she said.

Most of Elise's specialist appointments are in Brisbane, but once she receives an organ transplant she'll have to visit the local health service as often as daily.

Medication to stop Elise's body rejecting the new liver will need to be closely monitored, Mrs Anderson said.
