Multiple vehicle crash ignites nearby paddock
SPARKS have flown, literally, after a multiple vehicle collision on the Pacific Hwy at Clarenza.
The driver of a Ford Falcon was heading towards Grafton at about 12.15pm yesterday when he crossed to the wrong side of the road near the Centenary Dr intersection.
The vehicle crashed into a Holden Captiva before losing a tyre which rolled into the bush, sparking a fire in dry grass.
Further debris from the collision hit a third vehicle, a Landcruiser, which caused a flat tyre but no other damage.
Coffs/Clarence Acting Inspector Dave Lollback said it was lucky no-one sustained serious injuries in the incident and inquiries were continuing as to why the driver of the Falcon veered into the opposite lane of the highway.
He was taken to the Grafton Base Hospital for drug and alcohol testing.
Rural Fire Service crews were able to contain and extinguish the grass fire soon after their arrival.
